WOYWW 111 – One layer Cards

Sometimes you want to try something different, something that’s a challenge for you. I’ve found my challenge in the CraftStamper of last June where I’ve read an article about ‘One layer cards’. I like these cards, because of the simplicity. In all my Magnolia cards you’ve find a huge mount of flowers, ribbons and other stuff. So why not try to make a card without all these embellishments?

So here you see my work desk for today and…my supervisor too (LOL). My lovely little cat Marit is always interested in what I’m doing. But she likes working with flowers mostly (always wanting to try and steal one), so I’m wonder if she'll like these ‘one layer cards’.

But when I started with my first card, I discover it looks a lot easier than it is. For example I’ve made the masks and forgot to use them. And the small twigs around the butterflies don't look right to me. And last but not least… the Distress Ink bled through my Post-It which resulted in small splashes on the white part of the card. So here you see my first item….hm, time to try another one.

The second one looks much better to me. No splashes and I used a dark brown ink instead of black to give the card smoother look. And what do you think about an envelope in the same style?

But everyone knows when you get started with something new and it works… you can’t stop trying it with new stamps and colours. So that’s the same with me… And here are some others with their matching envelopes.

En nog één... speciaal voor de heren.
And one more… especially created for a man’s birthday.

Less is more.

I hope these cards give you the inspiration to do something different too. I like them very much, especially because I can finish them in a much shorter time than all my Magnolia cards. And you don’t need all those embellishments to make a beautiful card. You can say here… Less is more.

Have a happy and crafty Wednesday.

I really like the simplicity of all your cards, but my favourite is the one with the pocket watches and 'tempus fugit'. It's quite steampunky, which I love :) Have a good week xx

I love them!!!!!!!!! Really fabulous stamping and colour choices Franka. You must join in with Less is More sometime! So glad you tried again as they are beautiful and you're right it is not as easy as it looks - no hiding the splats here with a bit of grunge!!!

Well they are indeed inspiring cards - really fab and I love your touch with colours. I know wxaclt what you mean when you say that they look easier than they actually are to do - I think I find one layer cards harder than anything else!
